The Twelve Days of Christmas
This tradition has its roots in the twelve days of celebration between Christmas, (Circumcision in the middle), and Theophany (or Epiphany in the western Church). These three Major Feasts represented (in order) the Birth of Christ, the Naming of Christ, and the Revalation of Christ as God. Even today this is a fast-free period of celebration of our Lord's earthly journey prior to his ministry.

"And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 3:17
